What is the Government doing to improve marine security?
On April 27, 2004, the Government of Canada unveiled its National Security Policy, designed to address current and future threats. Among the various National Security Policy initiatives being undertaken by the Government is a renewed focus on strengthening marine security. The National Security Policy promised to better track vessels operating in Canadian waters, increase surveillance, protect marine infrastructure and improve domestic and international cooperation. An important element of this strategy is the establishment of fully joint interagency Marine Security Operations Centres.
