There is no best brand of spermicide or lubricator. Different brands can cause irritation in different people, so you have to figure out which one works for you. As long as they have nonoxynol-9 in them, they’re a good brand. Most pharmacies will offer a selection of spermicides with that ingredient in them. In order for spermicides to be effective they should contain nonoxynol 9. Other forms of spermicides are not considered to be as effective. Lubrication should be provided in a water-based formula, so water should be the first ingredient listed on the package. You should never use an oil-based type of lubricant because if your partner has been using a condom, an oil-based or petroleum-based lubricant can potentially cause the condom to fall apart.
