What is the history of gum?
The history of gum dates back to as early as the Ancient Greeks, who chewed the sap from the Mastiche tree. Early American natives and colonists preferred the sap from the Sapodilla tree called chicle. Chicle was used as the base of early commercial chewing gum products, along with other flavorings. The modern chewing gums still use a synthetically produced substance based on chicle.
