The Poodle Skirt/Why were poodle skirts so popular in 1950's?: One reason is they were very good for dancing to the rock and roll songs, such as Elvis' song All Shook Up. They were easy to move in leaving lots of room to swing. The full skirt with the petticoats under emphasized the dance moves as you spun around. Also it was a statement of freedom symbolized in the skirt (a loosening and free), a movement by teens to express themselves. A poodle emblem was the most know addition to the poodle skirt.
