What Is The History Of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club?
Tottenham Hotspurs were founded in 1882, but started out their years as Hotspur Football Club. The club consisted of the local grammar school boys mixed with members of the Hotspur Cricket Club. The inclusion of ‘Hotspur’ in both the cricket and football clubs is in reference to Sir Henry Percy (known colloquially as Harry Hotspur) who lived in the area in the 1300s. The team later changed their name to Tottenham Hotspur to avoid confusion with another London team called London Hotspur. The club played at several grounds, including Northumberland Park and the Lee River marshes, before turning professional and settling in the spot of White Hart Lane which is still their home ground today.
