At first glance I thought The O2 Diet was something about oxygen. I had visions of oxygen merchandise (like $4.95 bags of oxygen that you could heat in the microwave). The O2 Diet, by nutritionist Keri Glassman, is actually about anti-oxidants. New York based Glassman wrote the Snack Factor Diet back in 2007 – which was essentially an approach based on eating 5 meals a day. The new diet is based around a food’s anti-oxidant levels. Keri’s diet is based on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale, a calculus developed by the USDA that measures how well a food protects against free radicals, the culprits behind many forms of cancer, heart disease, and symptoms of aging. Rather than counting calories or other restrictions, O2 suggests a daily intake that includes 30,000 ORAC points.
