The mission of the Immigration & Naturalization Service, an agency of the Department of Justice, is to carry out our country's immigration laws, which provide for selective immigration and controlled entry of visitors, business traveler's or non-immigrant aliens. Specific tasks include: facilitation of entry of persons legally admissible at the various land, sea and air ports of entry; administration of benefits including permanent residents status or naturalization; apprehension and removal of those aliens who enter illegally or who violate the requirements of their stay. INS policy highlights "social service" responsibilities, as well as the duty to enforce the law as established by Congress. INS offers two student employment programs: Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) and Student Volunteer Experience Program (SVEP).
