London Poppy Day is an initiative from the Lloyd’s branch of the Royal British Legion that gets former members of the armed services, now working in London, to come and collect for the Poppy Appeal for one day each year. On 4 November, hundreds of volunteers from the insurance market and other businesses will be collecting during the morning and evening rush-hours in train and underground stations across London, as well as collecting in Leadenhall Market in the City over lunchtime – where they will be supported by the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas. Why is the Poppy Day Appeal so relevant today?
