What is the Maximum Cable Radius for VG?

The maximum copper cable radius is the maximum distance between any two nodes on a VG network. This value is 2,000 meters (2 kilometers). This value is calculated as follows: Take the following VG network with 9 hubs and two nodes. Each hub is separated by a 200 meter length of CAT 5 cable. Each node (both A and B) are 200 meters from their hubs. There are 10 physical cable segments for a total of 2,000 meters of cable. This is the maximum copper VG cable radius. Now, since a fiber link between two hubs or a hub and a node can be 2,000 meters itself, it would seem that a VG network could have a radius of up to 18 kilometers. Unfortunately, the maximum VG network radius when using fiber and copper is 2.5 kilometers. This limitation exists because the maximum delay from any node to the root repeater must be less than a specified value (no, I don’t know what that is… yet). Note that this is NOT the maximum amount of total cable that can be in a VG network. There can be much more copper
