What is the meaning of destruction of ecosystem?
There is biotic balance in an ecosystem, which makes it possible to sustain the various inter dependent members (plant and animal life) to maintain their individual group existence at a level. Any act that vitiates this balance (mainly by humans and occasionally other factors as well) tilts the balance adversely in respect of one or more members of the system, with attendant break up of the harmony that marked the ambiance. Take for example, an intervention to convert a grass land into a cultivated land, eliminates the major grass spp that dominated the place, along with the pests and predators.. The area gets converted to new plant spp raised for our use. We start applying fertilizers to have the crop yield more, pesticides to kill pests that prey on the plant, weedicides to kill the flora competing with crops for nutrients and water, etc. This results in multiple changes in the ecosystem.
