What is the meaning of the dance Muay Thai fighters do before their fights?
The Wai Kru and Ram Muay (Ceremony & Dance) is a Buddhist ritual performed before traditional Muay Thai fights to help center a fighters mind and fighting spirit, and traditionally “seal the ring off from evil spirits”. The Ceremony is performed to show respect for your teacher, family, country, and your religion or spiritual belief. The Ceremony and Dance is different depending on the Muay Thai camp you train in, so you would technically be able to recognize a fighter’s gym from his Wai Kru and Ram Muay. It is also said that you can tell which fighter will win his fight by how good his Wai Kru and Ram Muay is.
