What is the mercury ore in nature? From where is this liquid extracted?
Mined as the ore Cinnabar, mostly from the Quavos mine at Almaden however mercury is still mined in a number of countries such as Spain, China, Kyrgyzstan and Algeria. Crushed cinnabar ore is roasted in rotary furnaces. Pure mercury separates from sulfur in this process and easily evaporates. A condensing column is used to collect the liquid mercury, which is most often shipped in iron flasks.
