When cockroaches appear in the home, most people begin to search for solutions that will repel the roaches and keep the home free of the pests. There are a number of options available today, each of them claiming to be an effective cockroach repellent. Here are some of the more common ideas on how to get rid of cockroaches quickly and effectively. For people who prefer the natural approach, there is always the idea of preparing cockroach bait containing boric acid. This time-honored cockroach repellent involves creating small pellets from boric acid, flour, and water. Some recipes call for including cocoa as well, possibly serving as a way to entice cockroaches to approach and consume the pellets. The idea is that by consuming the pellets and feeding the pellets to their young, the infestation can quickly be brought under control and make the home cockroach free once again. There is also the possibility of using one of the sprays that are said to repel cockroaches and also cause them ...  more

Effective cockroach management begins with prevention. While we cannot control every variable, there are a few steps you can take to prent cockroaches from ever entering your home. Briefly, if there are any cracks or openings in your home, these will need to be sealed up before one can even begin to deal with the inside problem. The outside roaches will come right in.

Unfortunately, there may already be an established community of cockroaches already in your home. You will want to clean up areas where they can get ample food and water. Don't leave dishes in the sink overnight, empty and dry your sinks, and stop up the drains. Inspect drainpipes and ensure there are no leaks.Check everywhere food is prepared. Under the microwave, refrigerator, tables, inside the toaster. Try to make certain that garbage is either take out at night or locked up tight. Any cat or dog food left out is a feast for the insects. Although roaches eat anything that is organic—food scraps and crumbs, grease, garbage, cotton and wool fabrics, cardboard, and wallpaper glue, limiting as many of these food sources as possible is a great place to start.

When you've done all the preventing you can do, take away their hiding places. Seal any cracks you find, and find out where they are living. You may surprise them at night by turning on a light. See which way they go to hide. Once you know their paths, you can continue to the next stage: getting rid of the existing roaches.

The most effective methods I have found for killing and repelling roaches is also the safest for pets and people. It's also the least expensive. I recommend diatomaceous earth, which is simply the fossilized remains of microscopic diatoms. As roaches crawl onto this powder, their legs and bodies become coated. Once this happens, the diatomeceous earth dries out lipids, which causes the roach to dehydrate.

If I had a second choice, I would use boric acid; however, boric acid is poisonous if taken internally or inhaled. Boric acid comes as a dust that roaches ingest when they groom themselves. It acts as a stomach poison, but is still one of the safer control products to use.

With either solution, simply find where the roaches crawl. Under the refrigerator, behind the stove, under the microwave, in front of the cabinets. I would never use boric acid inside cabinets, but you can do that with diatomaceous earth, since it is absolutely non-toxic to humans. After the roaches are gone, you can sweep it up just like powdery sand, or leave it where it is for continued control.

From all the years of experience as a pest control operator, I do not know any better solution to eliminate, control and prevent roach infestation than using a bait. It could be MAXFORCE, ADVION OR AVERT. This are formulations that has helped many profesionals to avoid spaying residual insecticides on houses and bussiness. YOU CAN DO-IT YOUR SELF, BUT REMEMBER DO NOT USED ANY OTHER SPRAYS COMBINE WITH BAITS.
