big nickel is right about most of what he says. I am also in the pest control business and it IS possible to eradicate roaches from a building and should be done in a responsible manner. However, I do not agree with his criticism about the exterminator. As the owner of my company, I have frequently had to deal with cheap, idiot landlords who refuse to pay for service of the entire structure and instead want me to do the cheapest job possible. In the Landlord/Tenant laws within the city that I live, it states that if the pest is in more than one apartment, it is the landlord’s responsibility to treat. If I were you, I would talk with someone in your city government to find out what rights you have, and then discuss this with the landlord. FYI – I had a customer that lost her children because a roach crawled in her daughter’s ear and she had to go to the emergency room to have it removed. I really hate to tell you this but cockroaches are one of thee hardests pests to get rid of. You can not effectively get rid of them if the apartment complex won’t treat their whole appartment, because the exterminators will come to your apartment, treat it and the cockroaches go away to others apartments, but they will come back to yours. It will be a never ending cycle. So you need to find a long term solution to keep them at bay and aerosol cans will not do that, they are just temporary solutions to the problem. Regardless you need to be informed of the dangers that cockroaches pose: Cockroaches feed on food scraps and garbage, and can transfer germs by crawling on counter tops, clean dishes, and silverware. These germs could give you food poisoning and expose you and your family to other diseases.
