Carbon tetrachloride, also known by other names is the chemical compound CCl4. It is widely used in synthetic chemistry and formerly widely used in fire extinguishers and refrigeration, but largely abandoned. At room temperature and pressure, it is a colorless liquid with a “sweet” smell that can be detected at low levels.
