Cumberland Island National Seashore has a new boss. Fred Boyles, superintendent at Andersonville National Historic Site, starts June 7. He replaces Jerre Brumbelow, who was assigned to an administrative position in Atlanta in July 2007. He was fired last year for withholding information about a project on a leased tract of land on the island. David Vela is Southeast regional director for the Park Service. He says the lack of a permanent superintendent has been a challenge. Boyles taught at Center Junior High in Waycross during the late ’70s.
