What is the new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirement?
Commencing January 1, 2011, lawyers and paralegals must complete in each calendar year at least 12 hours of continuing professional development in eligible educational activities. No less than 3 of the 12 hours must be on topics related to professional responsibility, ethics and practice management (“professionalism”). The required 3 hours of CPD related to professionalism must be accredited by the Law Society. The remaining 9 of the 12 hours need not be accredited.
