What is the new SOL (Skilled Occupation List)?
On 17 May, 2010, DIAC announced that they would introduce a new SOL, to take effect on 1 July, 2010. This list details the occupations which will be available for a General Skilled Migration (GSM) visa. These visas are available for applicants who are independent migrants, or who have a relative, or State or Territory Nomination (Sponsorship). There is a different occupation list for the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS). Applicants need to have an employer to sponsor them if they nominate an occupation on the Employer Nomination Scheme List (ENSOL). The new GSM list is much shorter and more targeted than previously, and VETASSESS has less occupations available for the GSM (Skilled Independent stream). Each state will also issue a State Migration Plan, which will detail additional occupations which applicants can nominate for GSM, as a State Nominated visa applicant.
