What is the new spousal surcharge?
Spouses/same sex domestic partners who have access to medical insurance through their employer, but instead choose UM/Aetna medical coverage for 2009 will pay an additional $20 surcharge per month. Employees whose spouses/partner does not have access to an employer sponsored medical plan MUST complete the No Access to Employer Sponsored Medical Insurance Certification Form at myUM during Open Enrollment to waive the monthly surcharge. (NOTE: If your spouse/partner works in a full-time or part-time regular position for the University of Miami, you may choose a family plan without being assessed the monthly surcharge).
