What is the news regarding the daytona international speedway?
The more than 17 inches of rainfall that has fallen in Daytona Beach, Fla., since Sunday has left portions of Daytona International Speedway under water. Pictures show water levels halfway up the SAFER (Steel and Foam Energy Reduction) barriers in some portions of the track. The Turn 1 tunnel that haulers use to enter the track is filled with about 10 feet of water. Track spokesman Andrew Booth said there is no apparent damage and the track will be ready for the July 4 Sprint Cup race. Sources: http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar/cup/news/story?
Excessive rainfall in Volusia County and surrounding areas has left much of Daytona International Speedway under water, but thus far undamaged, according to track officials. According to news reports, rainfall totals for the area as of 7 a.m. Thursday morning exceeded 16 inches at nearby Daytona Beach International Airport and the New Smyrna Beach region. Much of the DIS infield area, as well as the backstretch of the 2.5-mile superspeedway was under water. Rainfall had also caused flooding that left the Turn 1 tunnel, which is large enough to accommodate the large tractor-trailers used to transport race vehicles from track to track, nearly filled with water. Heavy rains in Daytona Beach have doused Daytona International Speedway. The track’s infield tunnels are filled with water and several feet of water have flooded the track. It’s like a two and a half mile river in the shape of a tri-oval, halfway up the SAFER barrier.DIS spokesman Andrew Booth said there’s no serious damage to the track. All its buildings are safe.”No damage to our grandstands or any buildings or anything like that,” Booth said.Booth said the track would be fine for July’s Coke Zero 400 and that the damage and flooding to residential areas around Volusia and Flagler counties are much more significant than what’s happened at the Speedway. For that reason, Booth said the speedway would not release photos Sources: it is from given article.
