What is the NICU, and what do they do there?

NICU stands for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This unit is designed for babies who are born premature, or before 40 weeks of gestation. The unit has specialized care for the tiny miracles they take care of. The conditions of the babies vary, many are in isolettes, which are tiny cribs that are like boxes. This helps keep the germs out, and keep the babies warm since their bodies can’t hold their temperature up yet. Many babies in the NICU are on ventilators which breathe for them because their lungs aren’t fully developed. Often times the equipment used is too big, so the doctors have to alter it to make it small enough for these tiny babies. The NICU helps save, and better the lives of extremely sick, and fragile babies, and their families. Q: Where can we contact you? A: We have a “contact us” link on our home page.
