(Question submitted online, answered by our resident Dr. Geo, who's got a confluence degree :-) Interesting question although not totally relevant to project. The northernmost latitude of the lower 48 states is NOT 49N as one might expect at first. It is the Angle Inlet at about 4923'N in Minnesota. Here's more on this piece of trivia.
