What is the penalty for violating a toll plaza?
If three or more violations occur a UTN will be issued to the registered vehicle’s owner. A UTN that goes unpaid will result in a Registration Hold with the Department of Motor Vehicles until pending toll transactions are paid to the Expressway Authority. A citation issued for a toll violation carries a maximum fine of $186.00 and 3 points per citation. A citation paid voluntarily to the Expressway Authority is $25.00 with no points. If you choose to go to court you waive your right to pay the lesser amount and must pay whatever fine the judge or hearing officer imposes, plus court costs.
