Lucy Garrido: ArticulaciĆ³n Feminista Marcosur launched the campaign “Against fundamentalism, people are fundamental” during the World Social Forum II. The World Conference Against Racism in Durban had not exactly been a success. Then September 11th happened, the conflict between Israel and Palestine deteriorated, the economy was falling apart in Argentina, and the USA was bombarding Afghanistan. We were searching for some way that we, a small stream of feminists, could have an impact politically on such overwhelming forces. We wanted to convey a simple message about what we considered to be a common denominator in the most serious events happening around the world. We are against the notion that there is only one way of thinking and, therefore, we are against all types of fundamentalism — religious, cultural, economic, and political.
