What is the prognosis for acromegaly and gigantism?
Without treatment, patients with acromegaly will most likely die early because of the disease’s effects on the heart, lungs, brain, or due to the development of cancer in the large intestine. With treatment, however, a patient with acromegaly may be able to live a normal lifespan. Source: The Gale Group. Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, 3rd ed.
