What is the prognosis for intermittent claudication?
If untreated, intermittent claudication will advance and eventually restrict a person’s mobility. In later stages, people feel pain when resting. The leg or foot may feel cold. In the extreme stage, the person might need a cane, walker, or wheelchair. There is more risk of gangrene developing, and amputation might be necessary. Diabetics face an increased risk of amputation. PAD also increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Source: The Gale Group.
