The prognosis might be for this person to first be admitted to the hospital and given IV antibiotics to see if the condition which made his intestinal obstruction get any better. They will also be watched 24/7 to see that they don’t get any worse during this time. Also a complete liquid diet might be tried to see if anything might possibly be digestible. If so then then the antibiotics would be continued until this person’s condition was improved and a surgery to get the obstruction repaired. When it doesn’t a tube called a nasogastric tube is placed down the nose and into the stomach to relieve gas and help remove fluids from the stomach to relieve any pain from the pressure building up in the stomach. Then several treatments might be tried to help avoid surgery. These will include enemas,stents and medications. If any of these are successful then the person will avoid any surgical procedures and be treated until healed. If not then surgery is needed and the first of these will be to
