What is the purpose and benefit of meditation?
There are many purposes of meditation which includes peace of mind, reduction of mental stress and tension, to develop the ability to be conscious of ones thoughts and emotions, self discipline and mental and physical well being. There are also several benefits of meditation related to general mental and physical well-being. However the main purpose and benefit of meditation in Buddhism is to develop deeper understanding and insight by overcoming all the negative emotions and confusions of mind and achieve the ultimate blissful stage or enlightenment.
