What is the purpose of an intake gasket in a 97 gmc truck?
An intake gasket on your vehicle and every other on the road for that matter is to seal the air flow chamber (intake manifold) on fuel injected cars. Since cars have a mass air flow sensor that helps to determine the right amount of fuel for the amount of air that that enters the engine, if there is no gasket, un-metered air can and will enter the combustion chamber, causing the vehicle to run lean, possibly set a code (check engine light), and have running problems.
