What is the purpose of Jewels or Rubies? Do these mean that a watch has better movement (watch)?
A Jewel or Synthetic Ruby is used as a bearing for high wear parts within movements. Rubies or Jewels are actually forms of synthetic sapphire. It is technically known as Corundum. No, this does not indicate a better movement or watch. Different complications add more jewels and rubies, due to the greater number of moving parts. Some manufactures also modify movements to enhance the aesthetics of the movement; however this should not be seen as indicative of quality.
