What is the purpose of Lent, anyways?
According to Wikipedia, “the purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer—through prayer, penitence, almsgiving and self-denial—for the annual commemoration during Holy Week of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events linked to the Passion of Christ and culminates in Easter, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.” Every year for Lent I do three things: 1. I sacrifice something I love. One year it was gum (last year), another all non natural sugars (senior year of high school- man that was tough!), the elevator to my fifth floor (result of walking up 5 flights a day was diesel legs), and yet another my afternoon naps (senior year of college).
