What is the relationship between climate and ocean?
Ocean currents can redistribute water and the heat energy contain within the water to latitudes that normally experience much different climates. For instance the gulf stream brings heat energy from the Gulf of Mexico up the eastern seaboard of the United States, causing a more temperate climate than one would normally expect at the more northern latitudes of the east coast. Which helps explain why Massachusetts is not as cold at Minnesota and Iowa in the winter, even thought their latitudes are comparable.
