What is the relationship between the Ayn Rand Institute and Second Renaissance, Inc.?
Second Renaissance, Inc. is a for-profit entity which ARI acquired in February of 2003. It is comprised of an online bookstore and a conference business which fully complement the mission of the Ayn Rand Institute, a not-for-profit entity. In addition to selling books by Ayn Rand and other Objectivist speakers and authors, the Ayn Rand Bookstore produces and offers audio and video lectures on a variety of topics, many of which were delivered at summer conferences. The conference business is called Objectivist Conferences (OCON). At present, OCON produces one to two-week annual summer conferences, generally held on the west coast in even-numbered years and the east coast in odd-numbered years. In the future, we expect to expand that to include shorter conferences throughout the year, as well.
