English is a global language. Hence, any literature written in English tends to play an ambassadorial role. It represents the country and its culture to readers abroad. It is for this reason that Indian English literature has always enjoyed a greater visibility than literature written in the regional languages. However, this is not to suggest that regional literatures have no chance. Translations are of great importance here, because they have the potential to take literature out of its specific context and showcase it before the whole world.
