The memory card slot is used to back-up/save the address book to a SD/MMC memory card. Once the addresses have been saved to the memory card through the Options menu, the address book can be restored to the Magellan RoadMate 2000 at a later time or to a another Magellan RoadMate 2000. This might be helpful if the unit is damaged and has to be replaced with another Magellan RoadMate 2000. You can purchase a SD/MMC memory card at your local retail store, purchase the smallest size. Magellan has found the SanDisk brand to be reliable.
