Endowments provide a dependable source of financial support by earning interest on the principal amount invested. This income is then used to help offset student-athlete scholarship costs that must be paid to the university annually. How much does the LSU athletics department pay back to the university in scholarship fees on an annual basis? In 2005, the LSU athletic department paid roughly $7.4 million in student-athlete scholarship fees to the university. These costs can expect to increase an average of 5% per year. How can I make a contribution to the endowment program? Contributions can be made in the form of cash, checks, credit cards, bequests, stock, or other forms of securities.
