What is the significance of the happy faces on my childs calendar?
A happy face on your child’s calendar represents over 7 hours of sustained good behavior. This does not mean perfect behavior – there may have been a time during the day when your child was engaging in a negative behavior, but if they receive a happy face on their calendar it means they were given a warning and corrected the negative behavior. Seven hours is a long time for a kindergartener to keep it together…those green faces are a BIG deal and should be treated as such. Additionally, when a child accumulates 25 stars on their weekly record they can eat lunch in the room with the teacher – always a fun event. I keep track of star totals for each kid, and update them each Friday before the weekly records are sent home. Once their updated total reaches 25 stars they are eligible for the following week’s lunch with the teacher.
