However, under the provisions of section 17 (1) of the Weights and Measures Act 1985 it is an offence for any person to use for trade, or have in his possession for use for trade, any weighing or measuring equipment which is false or unjust. You will therefore have to take steps to ensure the equipment is reasonably accurate and remains reasonably accurate. The Trading Standards Inspector from the Local Authority can carry out enforcement checks. The LPG Association publish a code of practice, number 19, which might be of help to you in establishing reasonable limits of accuracy. I understand the code is currently under the revision.
