What is the situation regarding title deeds on Egyptian property?
Historically, Egypts land registry system has lacked clarity. Mindful of the importance of having efficient and enforceable means of registering land and property if it is to continue to attract foreign capital, the Government of Egypt is establishing a freehold ownership system for all private property. The only exception is for properties on the Sinai peninsula, which can be owned on a leasehold basis (although the Government recently raised leaseholds from 50 to 99 years).
