What is the theory of snowball Earth?
The theory of snowball Earth is a relatively new theory which suggests that the continents and oceans were completely covered in ice approximately 600 million years ago. It is quite possible that the Earth could have remained in this frozen form except that heat escaping from the molten core prevented the oceans from freezing to the bottom. The theory also proposes that releases of key volcanic gases, mainly carbon dioxide is responsible for rescuing the Earth from its frozen form. Many people question this theory but the explanation is actually quite simple in theory. While the Earth was covered by ice, chemical cycles were halted. A direct result was the abundance of carbon dioxide which accumulated in the atmosphere. The theory states that the large buildup of carbon dioxide created an extreme greenhouse effect which was powerful enough to thaw the Earth in a mere few hundreds of years after being in deep freeze for ten million years. These remarkable pattern of events are also bein
