Coins marked Bank Deutscher Länder (Bank of the German States) were issued in 1948-49 prior to the reunification of West Germany. When the BRD (Bundesrepublik Deutschland) was formed in 1950 the same designs were used but the inscription was changed to reflect the unified country’s name.
