What is the view from Budapest on the current crisis – of the war against terrorism?
Viktor Orban: The tragic events in New York and Washington have created new risks and challenges to global security. Terrorism has become the major concern of the international community. The tragic events will have a wide- ranging long-term impact both on perception of security and the means whereby it can be provided. In the field of prevention and crisis management there is an absolute need for change. We believe the fight against terrorism will only be successful if the international community is able to set up a strong and unified coalition of states, willing to act around the globe. This coalition should include all countries and organisations that are committed to combat terrorism within the existing framework of international law. Accordingly, we welcome the participation of countries of the Islamic and Arabic world in this coalition, for it is our firm belief that the fight is indeed against terrorism and not against the Arabic people.
