What is the World Bank’s position in the ongoing climate change negotiations?
The World Bank is neutral to any negotiating party position. At the same time, it is working to contribute to an equitable global solution by analyzing and communicating the effects of climate change on developing countries, helping policy makers in developing countries understand their options for addressing climate change in strategies for economic growth and overcoming poverty, including how much it will cost. In supporting the UNFCCC process, the Strategic Framework sees the WBG’s role as threefold: • Improving local, national, regional, and global knowledge; • Sharing lessons on implementing the financial mechanisms under the UNFCCC and other relevant activities, including innovative approaches and business models; and • In partnership with other UN agencies, building capacity in developing countries to manage development-climate linkages, understand the implications of alternative climate policies, and participate effectively in the UNFCCC negotiations.
