The Universal Disk Format (UDF) is a format specification of a file system for storing files on optical media. It is an implementation of the ISO/IEC 13346 standard (also known as ECMA-167). It is considered to be a replacement of ISO 9660, and today is widely used for (re)writable optical media. UDF is developed and maintained by the Optical Storage Technology Association (OSTA). Where the UDF format is used DVD-Video media use UDF version 1.02. These discs contain a so-called UDF Bridge format, where both an ISO 9660 as well as a UDF 1.02 filesystem are present on the same disc, describing the same filesystem.
