Converting lower-resolution content into a signal that the TV will treat as HD. This can be done in the TV itself, or in the Blu-ray player or AV receiver. Results vary, depending on the quality of the processing hardware. Don’t be fooled, though – converting a standard DVD picture to, say, 1080i doesn’t mean it’s suddenly as good as an HD picture.
