Ok having lived in Auckland for 24 years I know the weather very well. I have also been to England several times. So the first thing I have to say when comparing England (London mostly) with Auckland is that Auckland has longer day light hours – in all seasons. Auckland is not gloomy, dark and depressing. Yes Auckland is sub-tropical and so it gets a lot of rain – but the rain always comes in short bursts – unlike England where it can rain for hours. Mostly in Auckland it rains while you are asleep and you can just enjoy the sound of the rain. Auckland is not very windy at all – I hate the wind so believe me I would complain if it was windy. Auckland is very humid, and so even though the average temp for summer is about 24 degrees it feels like it is hotter. So it can be pretty hot at night if you don’t have a fan in your bedroom.
