What is zyprexa used for?
Zyprexa or Olanzapine is called a neuroleptic or an anti-psychotic. and is used to treat schizophrenia or acute manic episodes associated with bipolar I disorder. It’s exact mechanism is unknown but it is believed to work by antagonizing various dopamine (D1,D2,D3,D4) and serotonin (5HT2A, 2C) receptors as well as Muscarine (M1,M2,M3,M4,M5) Histamine (H1) and alpha-adrenergic receptors (a1).
