Asking for work experience would be a good idea. It's usually unpaid, but if they have no positions vacant, that's the way you'll get in there. Otherwise if they have a minor position vacant - you will be able to do things like receptionist duty. I work as a cattery attendant in a vet clinic, I look after the cats in the cattery, feed them every morning, give them meds if needed, clean their cages etc... However this is not a full time job! Unless you're a vet nurse or a vet, there aren't really full time jobs (at my clinic anyway) but you can do full time work experience (unpaid). Another thing you could do is a get a job elsewhere (like in a shop or something) and do volunteer work in a shelter. If you've never worked with animals previously it is a good way to start out because even when vet clinics are hiring attendants they look for people with experience with animals.
