When we think of nursing jobs, we usually think of the helpful angelic presence that we see during a hospital stay.  The truth is, there are so many types of jobs that involve nursing skills and/or training that do not involve one on one patient care, you will really be surprised.  For instance, some nursing jobs that don’t fit the stereotypical example of nursing include  telephone triage nurse, nurse attorney, nurse researcher, case management nursing, camp nursing, business in nursing, flight/transport nursing, lifecare planner nursing, and nurse educator.

A good site to find out more about what’s available for individuals with nursing backgrounds and education is at http://www.discovernursing.com/

Another way to get detailed information about a particular nursing job and the job requirements, expectations for pay, travel, job duties, pros and cons, are at your state’s Employment Development Department’s Labor Market Identifiers (LMID) website.  These websites, such as the one offered by the State of California at http://www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov/occguides/Search.aspx will give you so many details about a particular job that you will be able to make a very well informed decision about whether or not this field is right for you.
