What jobs did Italian immigrant men typically hold in the early 20th century?
Some worked in the construction and excavation trades. Some were skilled stone workers such as in marble. Some became shopkeepers here in the US, if they had been doing that in Italy. Although quite a few came from the countryside of their homeland, few did resttle in the countryside. These ones probably had to give up farming because the majority of the Italian immigrants in the early 20th century settled in the densly populated Northeastern cities.
